I’m Just Too Damn Cute
As usual, I went for a sit-in. (Currently, I’m doing two periods of sit-in per day) The class this time was Form One.
The students were quiet first but gradually getting noisier. I felt like I need to do something so I stood up. In a strict tone, I ordered the class to lower down their voices.
And here, I had a surprise. One of the little girl who sits behind my class raised her hand and said loudly, “Teacher, when you are angry, you are cute (in Malay).” The whole class laughed together. I was speechless for a while. And the thought that I failed to control the class did cross my mind. I remember replying her but I forget what. I was too shocked with the statement, I still am now.
Sit-in used to be boring but soon I get to courage to speak with the students. And the time in class just breeze through. I realized that I was only doing sit-in and won’t be teaching them, so I decided to talk like a friend to them. People tell me to enter the class with the fiercest face I can make. I did for the first few classes…Man, my face was really sour that time… But suddenly, I realized why don’t I just make full use of my time here? Why can’t I have fun with the students, talk to them, smile and laugh with them? I’m just doing sit-in, not teaching them!! And so the fun of sit-in starts…
Students especially Form One and Form Two are fun to be with. They are especially interested to talk about handphones after they saw my SE K700i. Some even asked me to take their pictures in class (which I almost did but the bell ruined everything).
Just now, I went out for a fresh night air since the house felt really hot. I was looking at the sky and I saw lots of stars. Memories of Geligat Beach and Damai Beach flooded back to me. Friends, miss you all…
